What Are Ceramic Braces?
If the idea of having a lot of metal in your mouth is a reason why you avoid orthodontic treatment, you may be a good candidate for ceramic braces. Most of the components are made of a clear or tooth-colored material that is practically invisible on your teeth. The only parts that are visible are the wires and perhaps some of the brackets.
What Are the Benefits of Ceramic Braces?
- May be an aesthetic preference for some patients
- Works as effectively as metal braces
- Excellent option for adults
How Much Do Ceramic Braces Cost in Atlanta?
In general, ceramic braces cost more compared to traditional metal braces, and some insurance policies will not cover ceramic braces. You may have more out-of-pocket costs as a result. Ceramic braces are not as durable as metal braces, so we do not recommend them for children or patients who play contact sports. Any emergency repairs to ceramic braces are not included in the original estimate. To help you decide if ceramic braces are the best option, our patient coordinator can provide a side-by-side comparison, including any insurance coverage. To help keep the out-of-pocket expenses affordable to your budget, Wright Orthodontics offers financing through CareCredit®.
What Should I Expect from Ceramic Braces?
Ceramic braces are just as effective as metal braces. A combination of bands, brackets and wires are attached to the teeth using dental cement. You may also have to use headgear and elastics during your treatment. The bands and brackets can be colored to match your teeth, and some patients are candidates for clear wires as part of their ceramic braces. Dr. Marc S. Wright explains your options for ceramic braces during the free initial consultation.
Every few weeks, you come to our office for an adjustment. During the appointment, Dr. Marc S. Wright exams your teeth and braces to make sure that everything is in good working order. He will then use special tools to slightly tighten the wires. This increases the tension on the teeth to help them move into the desired position.
Patients who have ceramic braces tend to experience less irritation compared to patients with traditional metal braces. The primary symptom of ceramic braces is discomfort after each tightening of the wires. This should only last for a few days, and over-the-counter pain medication can help.
Ceramic braces are more prone to damage and breaking compared to traditional metal braces. We demonstrate how to brush and floss your teeth with ceramic braces. As part of the follow-up appointments, Dr. Marc S. Wright checks your teeth and gums for any signs of plaque buildup or other problems. He advises you on ways to improve your oral health while wearing ceramic braces.
